- Ellwood Earl Smits "Smitty" was born in West De Pere Wisconsin on July 22, 1929. He died of natural causes on July 16, 2015 and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Smitty was the son of the late Joseph and Laura Smits of West De Pere. He moved with his family to Riverside California in 1962, where he remained until his death. His hobbies were camping, spending time with family, watching John Wayne Movies, horseback riding and deep sea fishing. He is survived by his wife Laurel Smits; his sons David Smits, Michael Smits, Stewart Smits; daughters Lynn Hamon (Smits), and Heidi Smits; fourteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A funeral was held in Riverside California at the Acheson and Graham Mortuary. His burial will be at the family cemetery in Brussels Wisconsin. There will be a service at the grave site at Three o'clock on Sunday, August 2, 2015. Friends and family are invited to attend. The Geise Cemetery is located at 8378 County K in Door County, just south of Southern Door High School.
