- Ellen M. (Reed) Wendt, 91, Seymour, died late Wednesday evening, July 13, 2005, at the Hospice at Cherry Meadows in Peabody Manor, Appleton. She was born on March 31, 1914, in the town of Shiocton, daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Mullen) Reed. On Nov. 24, 1936, she was united in marriage to Herbert H. Wendt at St. John's Catholic Church, Seymour. She worked as a school teacher, like her mother and grandfather, but was best known as the co- owner of the Seymour A&W Restaurant. She gained great satisfaction as a volunteer at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, where she received the 'Volunteer of the Year Award' in 2003. Her greatest joy was caring for and visiting with her entire family. She was a living example of grace, beauty and charm.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon (Kathy), Great Falls, Mont.; Dan (Pat), Shorewood, Wis.; Tim (Karen), East Tonka Bay, Minn.; two daughters, Judy (George) Pokorny, Holland, Mich.; Colleen Gallob, West Bend, Wis.; 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Don (Dorothy) Reed, Seymour; Lloyd (Joyce) Reed and Pat (Donna) Reed, both of Green Bay; two sisters, Rosalie Huhn, Appleton; and Joan (Jim) Kralovetz, Crivitz; one brother-in-law, Gilbert (Elna) Wendt, and three sisters-in-law, Lauretta Phillips, Torrance, Calif.; Gladys Reed, Milwaukee; Delores (Earl) Gillis, Freedom; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herb; sons, David and Michael; daughter-in-law, Angie Wendt; son-in-law, Tom Gallob; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Reed, Gene (Kathleen) Reed, Tom Reed, Gerry Reed; and one sister, Florence (Gus) Laske; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Greg Thompson, Dennis Huhn, Esther and Bert Nelson, Robert and Florence Wendt, Stuart Phillips and Myrtle and Carl Kroncke.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 17, 2005, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Muehl- Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. and Monday, July 18, 2005, from 9:30 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Seymour, with Father Bob Kabat officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.
