    • Edwin S. Foote was born 3/8/96 in Spring Valley, Minnesota , and raised in the Langford area. He came to South Dakot a from Minne-sota via wagon. In 1918 he married Anna Martin s, born 4/6/92, and settled on the Chester W. Foote (1854-1 942) homestead farm (Sec. 24), 61/2 miles northeast of Lang ford. Edwin inherited the farm build-ings and some land. Wh ile farming, several misfortunes hit, one being that tornad os took their barns down twice and after rebuilding for th e third time, it was taken by fire. There has always been s omeone in the Foote family on the homestead farm. After sem i-retiring, Edwin did carpentry and assisted on the farm. A nna was born in Germany and came to the United States wit h her parents (Martin Martins) and fam-ily in 1910. She wor ked for many area residents - Pitkins, Merle Ap-lin, and Ro ehrs. Nine children were born, Herbert, Ralph, twins (Floy d and Boyd), who died in infancy, Kenneth, Lucille, Helen , Dor-thy and Donald (twins). They have 20 grandchildren, s everal great grandchildren. After retirement, they purchase d a home in Langford one block north of the Langford bank a nd in 1967 moved to Sioux Falls, where they now reside.
      Herbert W. began farming with his father on the Foote homes tead (Sec. 24). He married Arlene Sundberg (daughter of Her bert and Veda Sundberg) who was employed in Aberdeen. The y farmed Sec. 14, now farm in the Claremont area. Herbert i s active in politics, worked with the McGovern campaign, al so an NFO supporter. He served as the township supervisor f or 20 years. They have two daugh-ters, Carol (Darrel Bacon , Cedar Rapids) and Vicki (William Mitc-hell, Brentford, SD ).
      Ralph C. was in the army during World War II in England. Af ter discharge, he farmed with his parents. He married Ann a Jean Han-son, Langford (daughter of Knute and Marie Hanso n) who was em-ployed in Langford restaurants. They purchase d the Foote homestead (Sec. 24), plus the Planteen farm (Se c. 13) and built a home there. Five children were born, Ret a (Floyd Ringer, Lake City); Verna (James El-lenson, Britto n); Neil (Marilyn Healy, Langford); Ward and Wayne, twins.
      Kenneth M., with brothers and sisters, attended Hickman gra de schools No. I and 3 via horse and buggy. He married Loi s Jones, Am-herst (daughter of Joseph and Mary Jones). The y farmed Sec. 14, 1 mile west of the Foote homestead for 2 0 years, sold out, moved to Sioux Falls in 1971 where he i s employed at John Morrell and she working for various resi dents. They have two sons, Robert (Jane Wendt, California ) and Bruce, Sioux Falls.
      Lucille M., after graduation, moved to Aberdeen, now live s in Sioux Falls and is employed as secretary at John Morre ll. She married Jack H. Green, Mississippi, also employed a t John Morrell. They have three children, Linda (Douglas Ne efe, California); Jack S., New Orle-ans; Jeffrey L., Siou x Falls. The Greens, active politically, worked for many ca ndidates and issues. Lucille, in League of Women Voters, wa s a White House guest in 1977.
      Helen I. married James Pierson (son of Harvey and Florenc e Pier-son), Claremont. They lived in the Langford area fo r several years, moved to Aberdeen, Red Wing, Minnesota an d in Sioux Falls she worked in the Northwestern bank. In 19 59, they moved to California. Helen is now employed at Cerr itos Bank as assistant manager and James is at Kaiser Co. T hree children were born to them, Patricia, Al-len (Collee n Hutton, California) and Ricky, all of Norwalk, Califor-ni a.
      Donald E. worked on the farm with his brother, Ralph. He th en served in the army for three years (Korea). He married P atsy Chapin, Kidder (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Chapin ) who works part-time at the Langford Steak House. They hav e been farmers in the Langford area since their marriage. T hey have two children, Sandra and Steven. Donald and his si ster, Dorthy, are twins.
      Dorthy A. married Gerald Schneider, Britton (son of Rober t and Gertrude Schneider) and lives in Marshall County. Com piled by Lucille Green
