- Edwin T. Jesse, lifelong resident A funeral mass was held Saturday for Edwin F. Jesse, 73, at St. Matthew Church, Hillsboro, with Father Carl Flach as celebrant.
Mr. Jesse died Sept. 23, 1987, at his home in Hillsboro. Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.
Mr. Jesse was born May 8, 1914, in Mountaindale, a son of Frederick and Irene Epton Jesse. On Nov. 9, 1935, he married Laurencie Vanderzanden, who died Dec. 17, 1965. On Oct. 8, 1966, he married Marie Burtch in Hillsboro.
He received his early education in Mountaindale and graduated from Banks High School in 1932. He farmed in Roy, Farmington and Hillsboro from 1932 to 1964, and then operated his own landscaping business in Hillsboro until 1972. Mr. Jesse then worked as a groundskeeper at the Washington County Courthouse until he retired in 1982.
His hobbies included raising beef cattle, camping and crabbing. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Jesse, Hillsboro; eight sons, Alvin Jesse, Norbert Jesse and Dennis Burtch, all of Hillsboro, David Jesse, Canby, Vincent Jesse, Buxton, Keith Jesse, Seattle, Louis Jesse of California, and Arnold Burtch, Coos Bay; and eight daughters: Elaine Bilodeau, Seattle, Elsie Smith, of West Virginia, Myrtle Ann Wise, Newberg, Lynnette Hesse, Virginia Patton and Pamela Steele, all of Hillsboro, and Paulette Jesse and
Connie Morrison, both of Buxton.
Also surviving are 37 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Jesse, Hillsboro; and a sister, Eleanor VanDomelen, Hillsboro.
Forest Grove Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
