      Edward M. Fechter, 73, of the town of Trenton, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2008, at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend.

      He was born on July 23, 1934, in the town of Trenton, the son of the late Martin and Eva (Hentges) Fechter, and on July 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joan Kolbach at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington.

      Edward was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.

      He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

      Edward and his family resided in the Town of Trenton and he was employeed as an over-the-road truck driver for 35 years.

      He also enjoyed running his fireplace wood business.

      Survivors include his wife, Joan; nine children, Marvin (Debbie Buchholz) Fechter of Grafton, Debbie (Joseph) Sanfil-ippo of Minocqua, Randy (Sher-ry) Fechter of Harshaw, Judy (Francis) VandeBoom of Kewas-kum, Rick (Kris) Fechter of West Bend, Bill (Laurie) Fechter of West Bend, Tom (Teri) Fechter of Little Chute, Janet (Nicci Miller) Fechter of Janesville and Jerry (Lisa) Fechter of West Bend.

      Edward was the grandfather of 23 grandchildren, Michael (Me-linda) Belger, Miranda (Ben) Fechter, Ashley Fechter, Angela, Ashley and Nick Buchholz, Joseph Sanfilippo, Melissa Fech-ter, Liz (Gelacio) Merida, Jennifer (Paul) Bishop, Jason (Nicole) VandeBoom, Josh (Claire) Fech-ter, Jenny and Rachel Fechter, Stephanie, Kevin and Sarah Fechter, Brenna and Emily Fech-ter, Thomas Fechter, Cole McKay and Dustin Fechter and his 23rd grandchild is due to arrive next week.

      Edward was the great-grandfather of Kaeli Fechter.

      He is also survived by his seven sisters, Susanna Kloehn, Josephine Schmitz, Angela Sch-winn, Evangeline Bohn, Evelyn Kolbach, Merina Fechter and Gloria Hahn.

      Edward will be missed by his special friend Shadow.

      In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by two brothers, Andy and Clarence Fechter.

      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.

      Rev. Kevin Kowalske will officiate, and burial will follow in the St. Augustine Church Cemetery.

      Visitation will take place Thursday at the church from noon until 2 p.m.

      The Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.

      The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend, Dr. Charles Kaufmann, Dr. James F. Kleczka and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for the compassionate care given to Edward.
