- Edna Erma Byrns (Wessing) age 94, of Appleton, passed away on April 8, 2017. She was born to the late Ernst and Ella (Doerfert) Huettner on July 25, 1922. Edna spend her youth on the family farm in Theresa. She married her first husband, Leo Wessing in June of 1948. In September of 1966, she married her second husband, Carl Byrns. Edna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1948.
In her younger years, Edna quit high school to care for her family. She loved gardening and preserving food. Edna worked at Treasure Island in Appleton as the head cashier. After retirement, she volunteered for the US Government Commodity Program. She loved traveling and going on road trips to see new places. Edna enjoyed listening to classic country and polka music. She was an avid reader of newspapers. Endna was quick witted with her words and showed her sense of humor. Natural health practices were important to her.
Edna is survived by her daughter Sue (Tom) Joosten; her grandchildren: Christopher Jansen, Heather (fiance Jeff Bernard) Jansen, Maria (Kenn) Seif, Ellen (Garrison) Bucholtz and Christopher (special friend Nicole) Joosten; great grandchildren: Cullen and Camden McNinch, Lauren Bernard, Emily and Victoria Seif, Zach Hayes (fiance Jessica) and Allison and Grayson Bucholtz; special nephew: Gary (Teresa) Huettner; godchild Dan (Deb) Huettner, longtime friend Geraldine Fiebelkorn; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands, her son Alan Wessing; brothers: Elmer (Tillie) Huettner and Martin (Evie) Huettner and other relatives.
A Memorial Service for Edna will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. At ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N. Oneida Street, Appleton with Pastor John Czarnota officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
