    • Doris Aileen Keefer Manion
      May 30,1932-November 26,2016

Doris Aileen Keefer Manion, 84, passed away Nov. 26, 2016, at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance. She was born May 30, 1932, in Hemingford, to Lester L. and Rowena (Price) Keefer. She was united in marriage to Laurence Manion on Nov. 4, 1950 in Alliance. To this union, four children were born. Doris was a lifelong Box Butte County resident and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. For over 30 years, Doris proudly served her family as a devoted stay-at-home mom. She helped her husband with his farm business. After divorcing, Doris became the primary bread winner of the home and the primary care giver for her younger children, Kirt and Kelly. She began a new career and ascended to the position of store manager at Marion's Mademoiselle. She served in that capacity for many years. After Marion's closed, she worked at Cottage Closet until her retirement. She was very cognizant of her appearance and always wanted to make her family proud. She combined a great fashion sense with an understated way and a grounded sensibility that made her approachable. These defining traits made her an ideal fit as a dress store sales associate and eventual manager. Outside of home and work, Doris dedicated herself to many causes. She was an active member of the Altar Society and sang in the choir. After retirement, she was a volunteer for Head Start and worked at the collection basket. Her hobbies included spending as much time with her children as possible, crocheting, watching Husker football, doing ceramics with her daughter, watching Elvis Presley movies and collecting Elvis memorabilia. One of her great memories was getting to visit Graceland and the Elvis Presley birth place landmark with her son, Steven.Doris could be said to have had many other hobbies, almost too many to mention. Most, if not all of her hobbies, revolved around her children. Her homemaking skills were vast and impressive. Doris kept an immaculate home and her eye for interior design always impressed. She hosted many interior design parties. Even later in life, while in assisted living, her apartment was used as the model apartment for potential new residents. At the time of marriage, Doris was an amateur in the kitchen. She took that as challenge to get better, became a very accomplished cook and spoiled her family with delectable dishes of many varieties. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her son Steven Manion, her daughter, Susan Hendrix and her brother, Ron Keefer. Funeral services will be Nov. 30, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Tim Stoner officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
