      VanDeHei, Dorene
      Dorene A. VanDeHei, 74, rural New Holstein, died unexpectedly Monday evening, Nov. 17, 2008, at her home. She was the former Dorene Koenig, born April 18, 1934, in Spokane, Wash., daughter of the late Hugo and Mary Jane Blackwelder Koenig. Dorene was a graduate of North Central High School in Spokane. On Jan. 18, 1975, she married Ambrose C. VanDeHei at St. John's United Church of Christ, New Holstein. He preceded her in death on Oct.8, 2006. She had been employed at the New Holstein Reporter for many years. Dorene was a member of the Kiel Ruby Rockers Red Hatters, Calumet Co. Embroiderers Guild of America and the Sheboygan Co. Quilters Society.She enjoyed quilting and crafting.
      Survivors include her seven children, Debbie (Randy) Mueller, rural Plymouth; Connie Doucette, Green Bay; Michael Sullivan, Rochester, Minn.; Steve Sullivan, rural New Holstein; Anthony VanDeHei, Merrill, Wis.; Gerald VanDeHei, rural New Holstein; Eugene (Ann) VanDeHei, rural New Holstein; 13 grandchildren and one great- grandchild. She is further survived by one sister, Pat Merkel; other relatives and friends.
      She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Gary Doucette; one sister and brother-in-law, Viola and James Collins.
      Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel, with Rev. Douglas Bisbee officiating.Private burial services will take place at a later date.
