  • Notes
    • Donna Mae Cecilia (Roffers) Grosse, 72, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at home with her husband, Robert, by her side. She was born July 22, 1937, in the Town of Lawrence, to the late Frank and Cecilia Roffers (Van Gheem). Donna Mae was a graduate of Nicolet High School, class of 1955. After graduating from St. Norbert College with a degree in elementary education, she taught in Kaukauna and at Webster Elementary School in Green Bay. On Aug. 10, 1963, she married Robert Grosse at St. Boniface Catholic Church in De Pere. After her children were grown, she went back to work; as a teacher at NWTC and as an accountant at Mayhugh Insurance. She loved music and dancing, spending time with family and friends, baking cakes and pies, crossword puzzles, watching sports, and traveling around Wisconsin and Upper Michigan with her husband.

Her pies were baked with special care for her husband Robert, sons Peter and James, son-in-law Jeffry, and grandson Joseph. Her cakes had special meaning for her daughter, Julie and her granddaughter, Anna; carrot cake for Julie and banana cake for Anna. Donna Mae was a beautiful person inside and out. She faced life head on and never complained, even when she was diagnosed with cancer. Donna Mae will be sadly missed; especially at family gatherings which often included Robert playing the piano as the family joined in song. All the meals were extravagantly made, with at least two main courses, and two of each side dish. Donna made the best perch plate in Green Bay. She never forgot anyone.

Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, Robert; her children, Peter Grosse, Seymour; Julie (Jeffry) Kaftan and their children Joseph and Anna, Green Bay; and James Grosse (special friend Jennifer Vissers), Milwaukee; two sisters, Arleen (Harold) Vanden Heuvel and Dolores (Roy) Holl; two brothers, Norman Roffers and Harvey (Barbara) Roffers; brother-in-law, Walter Jarosinski; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rita (Roffers) Jarosinski; brother-in-law John Grosse.

Words can not express our gratitude to family, friends, the staff of Green Bay Oncology, and all other caregivers who have been so loving, kind and helpful during this difficult time.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday.
