Grode,Donald C. "Chris"
Donald C. "Chris" Grode, A.K.A. "Harvey A. Hacker," age 81, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006. He was born on August 1, 1924, in Menasha, son of the late Mike and Jenny (Miller) Grode. On October 31, 1946, Chris was united in marriage to Gertrude Wege. They were married 49 years before she preceded him in death in 1995. He served his country as a sergeant during WWII with the U.S. Army in the sixth infantry division; receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. After attending the University of Wisconsin, Chris worked as an agent for Metropolitan Ins. Co., then as a salesman for Curt Smith Clothing, Neenah. He then worked for 20 years as a sales rep. with Gilbert Paper Co. He retired from Jeweler's Mutual Ins. Co. as Vice President of Sales. Chris had a great sense of humor; he loved golfing, playing cards and listening to Glenn Miller.
He is survived by his son, Eric Grode, Neenah; grandsons: Austin, Chad and Mason, Neenah and Jared Nickerson, CA; brothers: Carlton, Neenah; William, LaCrosse; and his sister, Mildred, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude; his daughter, Lizbeth Ann and his son, Christian Michael.
A Memorial Service for Chris will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 7 p.m. at Westgor Funeral Home, Neenah. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name.
