    • Dixie DeWall, age 76 of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away May 30 at St. Elizabeth hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Dixie Colleen Collins on May 26, 1937 in Watertown, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Raymond Collins and Catherine Forbragd Collins. Dixie graduated from Watertown High School and attended UW LaCrosse where she received a BS in 1959. Dixie married her life partner Marvin DeWall on March 11, 1972 in Appleton. They shared many happy years together until his death in December, 2005. Dixie was well liked, well known and an advocate for anyone needing ANYTHING. She enjoyed gambling and a nearly annual fishing/camping adventure with various fishing buddies. Always the social butterfly, she volunteered countless hours in the cardiac-rehab unit at St. E's and enjoyed water exercise class at the YMCA. If there was ever a new-comer to class, Dixie would always be the one to welcome and familiarize the newcomer to the class and their routines. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Catherine Collins; her husband Marvin DeWall; brothers, Gene Collins and Percy Collins; sister, Janice Gorman; grandson, Peter Malutin, and great-grandson Theo Mueller.

Survivors include her six daughters: Darcy (Charlie) Holt, Alaska; Penni (John McLaughlin) Peotter, Washington; Susan (Pat) Hinlicka, Wyoming; Barbara Mangold, Kaukauna; Beth DeWall, Appleton; Natalie Giesen, Appleton. Thirteen grandchildren: Ellen Holt, Samantha Holt, Hayley Holt, Alaska; Adrienne Malutin, California; Jake Letman, Christian Hinlicka, Felicity Hinlicka, Dolly Hinlicka, Wyoming; Ronnie Martin, Hunter Mangold, Luke Mangold, Kaukauna; Jennifer Giesen, Milwaukee; Cassandra (Corey) Mueller, Appleton.

A memorial service and celebration honoring Dixie will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 3rd, 2013 at Zion Lutheran church in Appleton with Pastor Lloyd Luedeman officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10:45am. Interment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Online condolences may be expressed at www.valleyfh.com.
