Darlene Esther Gage (nee Van Dyke) (1934-2011), age 77, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Appleton Medical Center.
The funeral service for Darlene will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Darlene can be made to the National Marfan Foundation directly at Valley Funeral Home or online. Website www.marfan.org.

Darlene Esther Gage (nee Van Dyke), age 77, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Appleton Medical Center. Darlene was born on April 21, 1934 in Florence, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Richard and Esther (Davis) Van Dyke. Darlene grew up in Wrightstown and graduated from Wrightstown High School. On September 30, 1952, she was married to Charles A. Lorenz. Darlene and Charles raised nine children. She was a devoted mother and wife. Charles passed away on June 19, 1976 from an aortic aneurism resulting from Marfan Syndrome. Darlene worked at retail stores in Appleton for many years and also owned her own turquoise jewelry business. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; gardening, reading, and collecting antiques. In March of 1981, Darlene joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Appleton. Darlene is survived by her children: Deeahna (aka Diane) Lorenz, Alameda, CA; Debbie (Steve) Gradl, Appleton; John (Barb) Lorenz, Neenah; Dave (Cathy) Lorenz, Roselle, IL; Laurie Lackey, Appleton; Jeanne (Rick) Bushey-Lorenz, Wrightstown; Dan (Dee) Lorenz, Appleton; Cheri Lorenz, Berkeley, CA; and Lonn (Linda) Lorenz, Fremont, CA; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings, Richard M. (Vonnie) Van Dyke, Kimberly; Verl (Angelica) Van Dyke, Westmont, IL; Barbara (Ron) Westerback, Grants Pass, OR; Vivian (Harold) Schmidt, Neenah, and brother-in-law John (Pat) Lorenz, Cannon City, MN. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Richard A. and Esther (Davis) Van Dyke; husbands Charles A. Lorenz, Ron Otto, and Walter Gage; in-laws Norbert Lorenz, Fred (Fritz) Lorenz, Helene Van Handel, Cathy Kilsdonk, Carol Van Dyke, and Sofie Van Dyke. The funeral service for Darlene will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, with Dean Moede officiating. Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place on Monday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Darlene's name may be made to the National Marfan Foundation, www.marfan.org <http://www.marfan.org> for information. The family extends a special thank you to Darlene's caregiver, Tina Peck, for her years of companionship and care, as well as a heartfelt thank you to the knowledgeable and caring staff at Parkside Nursing Home, Little Chute.
