- AUBURNDALE - Damian H. Coenen, 90, of Auburndale, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital while visiting family.
Damian was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Dancy, to Theodore and Anna (Vanden Wildenberg) Coenen. He graduated from Rudolph High School.
He was united in marriage to Loretta T. Grassel on Sept. 8, 1942, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church in Blenker.
After their marriage, he worked for 28 years for Worzella Mercantile in Auburndale. He also sold insurance part time. He then became manager of the Auburndale Insurance Agency for more than 30 years.
Damian was on the board of directors for the Pioneer Bank, McMillan Warner Insurance and Community State Bank of Prentice. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, past president of the Holy Name Society and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4646 of Junction City.
He was an avid card player; also enjoying hunting, fishing and working with wood.
Damian is lovingly survived by his wife, Loretta; son, Francis (Sharon) Coenen of Westboro; a daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Zellmer of Eagle; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother, Simon (Angie) Coenen of Rudolph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joseph, Benedict, Elmer and Lambert Coenen; and two sisters, Mary Strean and Dorothy Dillinger.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale with the Revs. Michael Schelble and David Ashbeck officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
