- Fischer, Cyril John Francis Cy Appleton
Age 66, died Friday Christmas Eve Day, 2004 at Appleton Medical Center after a brief illness. Cy was born December 5, 1938, in Appleton the second youngest of 9 children to the late Frank and Anna (De Bruin) Fisher. He lived in Mackville until the age of 6 when his father died on Christmas Eve. It was then the family moved to Appeton. Cy attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Appleton High School in 1958. Cy served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1961, spending time in Germany. Following service, he went to Appleton Vocational School and received a degree in Accounting. In later years he changed vocations and became a truck driver. On September 26, 1964, Cy married his High School sweetheart Joan Eickman. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. Cy loved working in his garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with his neighbors. Around the neighborhood, he was known as Grandpa Cy with the little ones, and he loved it. Cy will be sadly missed by his wife Joan, Appleton, his son Michael, Appleton and a very special granddaughter Michaela whom he loved dearly; 4 sisters: Mary Ann (Ben Peter) Scherer, Williamsburg, VA.; Pat (Garth) Fahrbach, Albuquerque, N.M.; Donna Wilson, Cannon City, CO.; and Verna (Richard) Rohe, Crivitz. 2 brothers: Francis Hap Fischer, and Jerry (Judy) Fischer, Greenville; mother-in-law Evelyn Eickman, Appleton; a sister in law Janice (Dennis) Garvey, Appleton, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence who also died on Christmas Eve, a sister and brother in law Virginia (Ade) Ahrens, father in law John Eickman, and a special sister in law Lee Fischer. A Funeral Service for Cy will be held 7pm Wednesday December 29 at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Brooks officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 4pm until the time of service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Schaeffer for his prayers, Cyril's doctors, Dr. Vogt, Dr. Nonn and Dr. Mattio. We also want to extend a thank you to the employees and doctors at Women's Health Specialists for all their prayers and support and to our very special neighbors.
