- Corrine "Cubby" Verkuilen, of Pickerel, died Monday, April 4, 2016 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 78. She was born on June 1, 1937 in Little Chute, a daughter of the late John and Irma (Revoir) Pennings. She married James Verkuilen on June 6, 1956 in Little Chute. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2009.
She was a graduate of Kaukauna High School with the class of 1955.
After high school, she began her business career with Home Mutual Insurance Company in Little Chute. In 1964, Cubby and her husband bought the Sandy Beach Resort in Pickerel. They renamed the resort to Arbutus Lake Supper Club. After the sale of the resort in 1990, she worked at the Pioneer Express until her retirement in 2013.
She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Kelly (Randy) Jaje, Pickerel, Cyndee (Scott) McClintock, Atlanta, Georgia, Christy (Ron Pizl) Verkuilen, Antigo; two sons, Terry Verkuilen, Pickerel, Steve Verkuilen, Antigo; eight grandchildren, Josh Verkuilen, Pickerel, Chad (Casey) Jaje, Antigo, Megan Jaje, Pickerel, Cameron and Kayte McClintock, Atlanta, Georgia, Courtney (Mike) Albin, Pickerel, McKenzie Pizl, Antigo, Jason (fiancée Skye Brogan) Springer, Pickerel; five great-grandchildren, Kayden, Alden, Haydyn, Landon, and Dre; two sisters, Janice (Jim) VanCamp, Freedom, Laurie (special friend Tom Jochman) Latimer, Kaukauna; a brother, Daniel (Emily) Pennings, Des Moines, Iowa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Debra (Springer) Verkuilen, grandson, Michael Springer, and sister, Jolene DeGoey.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Pickerel with Rev. Dave Zimmerman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
