- Sister James Vande Hey, age 75, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Tuesday, August 22, 1995, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 1995, at Holy Family Convent Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem. with burial in Holy Family Cemetery.
The former Codell Vande Hey was born December 12, 1919, in Hatley, Wis., daughter of the late William and Anna Zimmerman Vande Hey. She entered the convent in 1934 and professed her vows in 1938. Sister James earned a B.A. Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc, Wis., and a M.A. Degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee. Sister James served as a teacher in elementary schools at St. Francis Xavier, Petoskey, Mich., St. Anne, Menominee, Mich., St. Theresa, Kekaha, Hawaii and as a teacher and/or administrator at Catholic Memorial High School, Waukesha, Wis., St. Francis Xavier High School, Petoskey, Mich. and Xavier High School, Appleton, Wis. She also served as guidance counselor at Xavier High School, Appleton, Wis., and served on the congregations' administrative council for 10 years, was a directress in the Formation Program for three years and director of vocations for the Congregation for five years. Since 1988, she has been residing at the Motherhouse.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, James and Jean Vande Hey, Austin, Texas, William and Doris Vande
Hey, Oregon, Wis., Raymond and Betty Vande Hey, Eagle River, Wis., Edward Vande Hey, Antigo, Wis.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jayne and Leonard Teske, Ponte Verda Beach, Fla., Betty and Roger Stake, Palm City, Fla.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at Holy Family Convent. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
