- Clarence K. Van Beckum "Van," 84, Green Bay resident, died Sunday morning, May 22, 2011, at a local hospital.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1926, in Green Bay, to the late Charles and Theodora (Raymaker) Van Beckum. Clarence attended East High School in Green Bay and then served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman during World War II.
On Aug. 7, 1948, he married the former Patricia Selissen at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.
Clarence worked as a baker for several years and then for the Green Bay Public School System until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, Green Bay; children, William (Teri), St. Paul, Minn.; Amy Krzykowski, Cedarburg; Laurie (Mike) Staffeldt, Peshtigo; Jody (Bill) Loving, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Patty Jo (Stuart) Bushmaker, Green Bay; Karl (Catherine Verrilli), St. Cloud, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Van Beckum, Green Bay; sister, Eleanor Vanden Branden, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Piumbroeck, Winn Bukowski, Mary Lou Rosman, all of Green Bay; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Alderman and Gladys Van Beckum; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave., on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. John Girotti officiating. Burial will take place in the Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses of St. Vincent Hospital 9th floor for all of the care given to Van.
