  • Notes
    • Charles Melancon married Marie Dugas and settled at Port Royal. He was fairly well educated. Marie Dugas was the daughter of Abraham Dugas and Marguerite Louise Doucet. In 1695, he wrote to the governorof Massachusetts giving him information on French activities in Acadia. He also went regularly to Boston where his daughter Marie lived with her grandmother and his mother Priscilla Mellanson and Marie married a French Huguenot by the name of David Basset. Three of Charles' letters are in the Archives of Massachetts. Despite the family connections and collaboration with the British authorities, the government deported the families of his grandsons and their descendants to several British colonies and prisons of England.. Just the same as the other families.
