    • Farmer Charles Holz killed and his son Walter badly injured by a premature explosion ofdynamite used in blasting stumps at the Holz farm Thursday afternoon. Both men left the home located on the Center-Black Creek town line road at noon and went to the woods on the farm. When the men did not come home at the usual hour for supper,Mrs.Holz sent her daughter Selma to get them. She found her father dead and brother almost unconscious. Both men lay in the field for more than two hours before the tragedy was discovered by Selma Holz.Walter was able to climb into the car which was nearby and the girl ,never had driven an automobile steered themhometocallthedoctor.Waltersufferedacompoundfracture atthefront oftheskullandlacerationsofthe face and body. One eye was lost and there is doubt about retaining the sight ofthe other.!t is believed that two men were preparing the blast next to the stump and that the explosion came while they were working on the charge.Thefaces and bodies ofbothwere burned badly by powder. The seniorMr.Holz evidentlywas holding the charge in his right hand while the other was working to place it,because two bones in the hand were broken.Neighbors who were summoned conveyed the fathers body home from the woods and also took the injured man to St.Elizabeth hospital.Awatch carried by Charles Holz stopped about 2:30 and is believed to be the time when the accident occurred.
