- MRS. CATHERINE GEHL, 76, 137 North Third Street, Hilbert, died Friday evening, December 20, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah, after a short illness.
She was born July 2, 1909, in the town of Woodville, daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Rieter Giesen.
On November 9, 1932, she married Andrew Gehl at St. Marys Catholic Church in Hilbert. The couple famed in the town of Woodville until 1956, when they moved to Hilbert. Mr. Gehl preceded her in death September 21, 1975. Mrs. Gehl was an operating room nurse at Calumet Memorial Hospital in Chilton, retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, and the Christian Mothers Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Audrey) Wolff of Green Bay, Mrs. George (Patricia) Wittmann of Hilbert and Mrs. Robert (Andrea) Stephany of New Holstein; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Marjorie Gehl, Forest Junction; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sandra Gehl, Hilbert; 21 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Philip.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Marys Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall, pastor, as celebrant. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
