- Sr. Catherine (formerly Sr. Kostka) Wildenberg O.P., age 91, passed away at St. Mary Medical Center in Racine, WI on Thursday, October 14, 2004.
Catherine Harriet Wildenberg was born February 15, 1913, to Henry and Frances (nee: VerVoort) Wildenberg in Little Chute, WI.
On August 3, 1932, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1933, she was given the religious name, Sr. Kostka. She professed her first vows in 1935 and her final vows in 1941. In 1968, she returned to using her baptismal name, Catherine.
Sr. Catherine spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1934 at St. Edward in Racine. Other places in Racine where she served were Holy Trinity, St. Mary, and the former Dominican College. She also taught in other schools in Wisconsin and Michigan. She became a resident at Siena Center in 1966, where she worked in the print shop.
After retiring from the print shop, she tutored at Olympia Brown School in Caledonia and helped in the after school program at Winslow School in Racine. For 15 years, Sr. Catherine volunteered in the Intergenerational Fair Program.
Sr. Catherine is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; and her sisters, Helen Eckes and Josephine Beyer. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Christian and Joseph Wildenberg; and sisters, Sr. Barbara (nee Marie) Wildenberg O.P. and Barbara Wildenberg.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Siena Center Chapel Monday, October 18, 2004, at 6:15 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. Visitation will be at the chapel on Monday from 2 PM until time for the Liturgy with a Remembering service at 4:30 PM.
Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
