    • Casper owned and operated a Hotel and Saloon in Freedom. There was a grocery store connected to the Hotel owned by another man. On Monday night, Jan. 26, 1897 the entire place burned to the ground. Entire loss was set at $4000.00. The following night, Tuesday, Jan 27.

      Casper was written up in The Commermorative Biographical Record of Wisconsin. Notes from this record: Casper wqas educated in the commond district schools of his time, and was reared to agricultural pursuits, working also in a sawmill during his youth. When about 16 years old he commenced to learn carpentry, and subsequently came to Freedom township.

      This couple were members of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church. He was a "stanch member of the Democratic part, has served as township treasurer (two years) and constable, and at the present time holds the office of school treasurer."
