    • Audrey Iris (Kiser) Thiel was born August 8, 1926 to Martha (Pethke) Kiser and Clyde E. Kiser in Appleton, WI. She passed away with her family at her side on July 1, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Home in Seymour, WI at the age of 87.

She attended McKinley School in the 4th ward in Appleton from kindergarten through 9th grade. During the 9th grade she had the honor of being elected school mayor by her peers. In 1944, she graduated in the upper 10th of her class of 333 students from Appleton (West) High School. In 1946, she graduated from Kaukauna/Normal School with a license to teach elementary grades and went on to her first teaching job in the Town of Cicero at Sunny Valley School. There she taught 8 grades for 3 years. She then taught the upper four grades in the Town of Cicero at Sunny Nook and years later in Nichols and Hortonville. During the space of those years, she retired to raise 2 sons and help Ronald with the farm work. After resuming teaching, she worked toward her degree by attending classes at Oshkosh State College.

Audrey was married on June 10, 1948 to Ronald Thiel, son of Leonard and Mabel (Schroeder) Thiel at Cicero Evangelical Church. They were blessed with and enjoyed 66 years of marriage. After farming for 33 years in Cicero, they retired to the home they built in Seymour in 1980. Adding to their scrapbook of memories, they were privileged to travel to Europe several times as well as part of the US, meeting many fine people, some who became fast friends.

"These are statistics of my life. The real essence of it lies in how it was lived and the people who shared that life. First and foremost I had a wonderful husband and we raised 2 fine sons: Dean and Gary. They brought into our family circle their lovely wives: Sue and Susie; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. I dearly love and cherish each one and am so grateful for having been able to be a part of their lives. I'm grateful, too, for the beautiful memories and the joy of watching the grandkids grow into adulthood, becoming fine men and women, loving spouses and parents."

"I loved the farm life, even though raised a city girl. Working alongside Ronald and being with the boys when they were growing up was an adventure, even though hard at times. Gardening, flowers, hobby painting, crafts, music, and writing were also some of the interests I was able to enjoy and pursue over the years."

"Our little Cicero church was a special part, too, of my life. Being able to teach Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years was a privilege. Singing alto in the choir and being a member of the Ladies Society provided added opportunity to serve."

Audrey is survived by her husband, Ronald; two sons and their wives: Dean (Sue) Thiel and Gary (Susie) Thiel; 6 grandchildren and their families: Shari (Scott) Thiel Blake and son, Brett Mader; David (Amanda) Thiel and children: Alyssa, Miranda, and Owen; Kari (Chad) Hougaard and daughters, Courtney and Ashley; Sam (Chelsey) Thiel; Arthur Thiel, and Mya (Matt) Brugger and son Harrison. Also, sisters-in-law: Betty Kiser, Gerry Kiser, Buneda Kiser, Evelyn Tank; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Irma, and brothers: Fred, Clyde, Vernon, Russell and Kenneth; sisters-in-law: Wardeen Brusewitz, Audrey Thiel; brothers-in-law: Chris Groth, Warren Thiel, Henry Brusewitz, and Clarence Tank.

Predeceased or surviving are wonderful friends and relatives who were in her life adding enjoyment, widening horizons and giving new dimensions that made for an even fuller and richer life.

Friends may call at Seymour United Methodist Church on Monday, June 7, 2014 from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. with Pastors Rebecca Henry and Lynn Kollath officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
