- Ardene T. Welhouse, age 78, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 14, 1932, in Freedom to the late Jacob and Mary (Brooks) DeJong. On April 30, 1953, Ardene married Roland J. Geurts at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. Together, they had four daughters. Roland preceded her in death in March of 1970 after sharing 17 years of marriage. In 1978, Ardene married Edward "Eddie" Welhouse at St. Aloysius Catholic Church; the union joined two families together. The couple enjoyed 30 years of marriage together prior to his death on December 7, 2008. Ardene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing sheepshead and polka dancing. She was a wonderful seamstress. Ardene was a very active member of St. Aloysius Church being instrumental in the planning of funeral lunches, The Ladies VFW, Hospital Auxiliary, TOPS Club and the Catholic Knights.
She is survived by her four daughters: Doris (John) VanHeuklon and their children, Shawn (Nicole) VanHeuklon and Sarah VanHeuklon, Kaukauna; Debbie (Andy) DeCoster and their children, Marty (Jackie) DeCoster, Mike (Becki) DeCoster and Amos (special friend Amy) DeCoster, Kaukauna; Vicki (Jim) Zollpriester and their children, Rachel (fiance Kyle) and Jordan, Wausau; Kim (Jim) Fassbender and their children, Fred and Kelsey, New London; her stepchildren: Dennis (special friend Nancy) Welhouse and their children, Chad (Libby) Welhouse and Sheri (Ben) Vosters, Kaukauna; Dan (Linda) Welhouse and their children, Kari (Phil) Rabideau, Nathan (Molly) Welhouse, Brad (Jenny) Welhouse, Eric (Leah) Welhouse, Kaukauna; Darrel (Karen) Welhouse and their children, Tara (Ryan) Micke, Erin (special friend Joe) Welhouse, Lynn (special friend Scott) Welhouse, Amy (Mark) Tinkham; Lisa (Dave) Hartjes and their children, Joey, Danielle and Graysin Hartjes, Kaukauna; Ardene was great-grandmother to Griffen and Niah Welhouse, Colton and Cash Vosters, Brielle and Raivyn Rabideau, Stella and Sawyer Welhouse, Kaylee and Nolan Micke, Chloe, Drew and Jadyn DeCoster, and Eliney Welhouse; a sister, Betty Hietpas, Kaukauna a brother, Frank "Fritz" and Joyce DeJong, Lee Lake, WI; and a brother-in-law, Ken Romenesko, Appleton, Betty DeJong, Kaukauna; and many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by Roland's family: Arlene (Floyd) Huss, Diane Geurts, Bea Anthony, Mary (Marv) Van Asten, Joann (Al) Lauterborn, Bud (Vickie) Geurts, Bonnie (Ron) Schmidt, Dan (Mary) Geurts, Jim (Robin) Geurts, Judy (Dennis) Brockman, special friend and neighbor, Bud Kohne in addition to her close friends: Lillian and Bob Tennessen, Mary Denzel, Arlene and Floyd Huss, Germaine Green, Karen Broeren, The TOPS Group, and many other friends to numerous to list.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roland Geurts, her second husband, Eddie Welhouse, a sister, Rose Romenesko, a brother, Cornelius DeJong and a brother-in-law, Donald Hietpas. Ardene was further preceded in death by family members of Roland Geurts and Edward Welhouse.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 Noon on Monday, January 31, 2011, at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH at ST. ALOYSIUS SITE, 2401 Main Ave., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends will be received on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at BOETTCHER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at which time a prayer service will conclude the evening and again directly at church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her name. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery.
The family would like to thank St. Paul at Home, Dr. Russo and the Staff of Kaukauna Clinic for the care and compassion shown to Ardene and her family.
