- OBITUARY MENTION (Waterford Post, Nov. 9, 1893)
Died, on Sunday morning, Oct. 29th, 1893, at her home in this village, Mr s. Louis Sanders, aged 70 years, 9 months and 3 days.
Deceased was a native of Germany, emigrated to America in 1845 and arrive d with her mother at Milwaukee in July of that year. The following yea r - Aug. 18th, 1846 - she was united in marriage at Burlington to Louis S anders. They immediately located in Waterford and have lived here ever s ince, with the exception of a few years' residence in Racine. Being amon g the first settlers they encountered all the trials and hardships of tho se days, but they met them bravely and honestly, and by doing so won th e good esteem of all who knew them. Mrs. Sanders was one of those true m others, whose world was her home and the love for her family only equale d by her devotion as a consistent Christian. For several years she has b een in poor health, but the immediate cause of her death was erysipelas . Her last illness was only a week. A husband and seven grown up childr en survive to mourn her loss. The death of her son Barney five years ag o was a severe blow and one which probably left its impress on her health . In bidding farewell to the loved ones she was able to do so in perfec t peace and resignation. The remaining children are as follows: Mrs. Min nie Garnitz, Grant City, Ia., Mrs Mary Quinn, of Norway, Wis., Louis, o f Bird Island, Minn., Joseph, of DePere, Wis., Charles, of Elm Grove, an d William and Miss Josephine of Waterford.
