    • Mrs. Angelique Bourgoine, who settled in Green Bay with her husband in 1837, died at the home of relatives in Eau Claire Sunday. Mrs. Bourgoine was 84 years old and was born in Malanzas, Cuba, of French parents. Her husband was a captain in Napoleon's army at the battle of Waterloo. Later the couple figured quite prominently in uprisings in Cuba and San Domingo. They were forced to flee and came to this city. Mrs. Bourgoine leaves many children and grandchildren in the state.

Angelique's father was a planter in Santo Domingo; He was caug ht up in a slave uprising and fled with his family to Cuba, having lost a ll his possessions. (family lore-no proof as of 23 Sep 2006 DFH) Angelique in her later years, made her home with daughter Eleanore. She was a great raconteur and people used to flock over to listen to her talk about tales of the Napoleonic court.
