  • Notes
    • Amy C. Weiss, age 93, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at The Heritage, Appleton, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

How do you sum up 93 years of living in a small column of words? Amy Claire O'Neill Slattery Weiss was born to Matthew and Cecilia O'Neill on November 23, 1922. They would have described her as an easy going child. Her siblings would say that she was a witty Irish "gal." Amy's classmates from Appleton High class of 1940 voted her to be their flag raiser. She continued to respectfully raise the flag that had draped the coffin of her high school sweetheart and Army Air Corps husband, Ken Slattery, who died in service of his country.

After a period of healing, Amy fell in love again and married Clem Weiss. He would have described her as a devoted wife and mother. Their marriage lasted 53 years and produced five children; Michael (Bonnie), Jim (Margie), Peggy (Terry) Young, Sharon (Greg) Plamann and Joe. Multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren were the focus of her love. She is further survived by her sister Katie Howman.

Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Clem; her son, Joe; her siblings, Roy O'Neill, Eileen Beachkofski and Bob O'Neil.

What will we remember about Amy, Mom, Grandma, GG? Oh, so many memories. What made her special? She loved wearing red, clipping quotes, making lists, remembering people's names, dressing up, finding a bargain and seeing the best in others.

The Funeral Liturgy for Amy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. Our family greatly appreciates the staff at the Heritage Woods and ThedaCare Hospice for their sensitive care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Amy's favorite charities: St. Thomas More Parish and St. Vincent De Paul.

God speed Mom. Your periodic dark days will be continuously
