- Alves Orelle Menting, age 75, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center.
She was born to Arthur and Isabelle (Fairweather) Benthagen on September 10, 1936 at Westhope, ND where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1954. She attended the (then) Bottineau School of Forestry. She was formerly employed for a time as a bookkeeper at the Parker Hotels in Minot, ND.
Alves was united in marriage to Lester Malliette in June 1956 in Westhope, ND. To this union two sons were born, Lee and Jeff. They lived in Bottineau, ND for several years before moving to Appleton, WI. She then was united in marriage to Donald Menting.
Alves was employed at Appleton Papers for 24 years. She enjoyed doing crafts, woodworking and painting, cake decorating, camping, and loved working in her yard. She and her sister enjoyed spending several weeks each winter for seven years in Panama City Beach, FL. Alves was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Appleton and the Women of the Moose.
She is lovingly survived by two sons, Lee of Houston, TX, Jeffrey of Charlotte, NC, five grandchildren, Sarah, Lisa, Kirsten, Richard and Phillip, and one great-grandson, sister, Lonnie Keyes of Minot, ND and special nieces, Karen Keyes, Kari Beckwith, and Kalli Keyes and special friends, Alvin and Jean Bouck.
Alves was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Menting, her parents, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Keyes and a niece, Traci Jane Renee Keyes of Minot, ND.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1-3 at the funeral home with the Rev. Debra "Dee" Sim officiating. Inurnment will be in Westhope Cemetery, Westhope, ND. A memorial fund is being established in her name.
