- Almyra K. Van Dyke, age 96, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007, at her daughter's home in Grand Chute.
Almyra was born December 2, 1910, in Appleton, the daughter of Charles P and Clara (Sturm) Kohl. She was the third child in a family of eight children. Almyra attended the first class of Wilson Junior High, and was a high school graduate of Appleton West. She then went to Outagamie Teacher's College and taught school for four years at the Triangle School in the town of Hortonia in the early 1930's. She was united in marriage to Edwin Van Dyke on November 2, 1933, and they were blessed with fity-one years together. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Almyra worked with Edwin on the farm, and in 1957, went back to teaching elementary school at St. Therese in Appleton for twelve years. She retired in 1970. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Golden Age Club of Appleton, and a square dancing club. She loved crocheting doilies, afghans, tatting, reading, doing word search puzzles, sheepshead, and playing Yahtzee with David and her other grandchildren.
