Aldean Martha Hunter, 90, was born July 28, 1928 at the family farm in rural Sheridan County, NE.

She passed away on November 28, 2018 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE.

Aldean was the daughter of Charley and Elsie Letcher, the second of seven children. Her childhood was spent at the family farm and she received her elementary education at a rural school near her home. She attended Hay Springs High School.

On August 6, 1949, Aldean married Robert (Bob) Hunter. They began their life together on a homesite of her Father's, on the Niobrara River. A son, Gregory, was born during this time. The young family then moved to a ranch north of Manderson, SD. Sons Kenneth and Roger joined the family. Five years later, Craven Creek, in northern Sheridan County, became their home and they remained there for one year. In 1957, Bob and Aldean purchased a ranch in southern Sheridan County where she lived until she retired from ranching in 2002. At that time, Aldean moved to Rushville, NE where she remained until shortly before her death.

Aldean was a real cowgirl with a very strong work ethic of which she reminded her sons the importance of each day. She was a hard-working ranching partner with Bob, continuing to grow the ranch. They excelled in herd genetics and raising quarter horses. Life in the Sand Hills of NE, as it turned out, was a great place to raise a family. It was Aldean's home for many years.

Later in life, Aldean enjoyed belonging to a bowling league, riding her 4wheeler, and making occasional trips back to the ranch. She looked forward to spending every Sunday with her siblings, playing poker. Significant bets were wagered--as much as 50 cents!

Aldean is survived by her children: Gregory (Beth) Hunter of Rapid City and Roger (Liz) Hunter of Rushville; daughter-in-law, (Tracy) Hunter of Custer; five grandchildren: Crystal (Gary) Day of Rapid City, Scott (Brittney) Hunter of Kansas City, (Sara) Hunter of Rapid City, Ryan (Roxy) Hunter of Lakeside, Leigha (Thye) deKoning of Chadron, Brett (Ashley) Hunter of Chadron; eleven great grandchildren; siblings: Joanne Foreman of Casper, Alvern (Corraine) Letcher of Hay Springs, Gerald Letcher of Hay Springs, Charlyn (Dick) Pyle of Chadron, Loreen (John) Nadobny of Hay Springs; and many other family and friends.

Aldean was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kenneth Hunter; grandson, Eric Hunter; and sister Marilyn Lawrence.
