- Adelbert E. "Del" Evers of Forest Grove died June 23, 1998, at the Camelot Care Center in Forest Grove. He was 77.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove with the Rev. Dave Gutmann as celebrant. Private family interment followed at St. Francis Cemetery in Roy.
Mr. Evers was born June 25, 1920 in Verboort, the son of Albert J. and Mary J. (Hermens) Evers. He was raised and educated in Verboort where he attended Visitation School.
He married Florence E. VanderZanden Nov. 8, 1944 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy. The couple briefly made their home in Cornelius before moving to Forest Grove where they remained.
Mr. Evers worked in the timber industry for a while. Then he worked in construction until 1964 when he began working for the Forest Grove Public Works Department as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1980. He always worked his 40 acre farm, even when working other jobs.
Mr. Evers was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, attending St. Anthony's. He was a 62-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a charter member of the Forest Grove Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 2440.
His interest included playing cards, gardening, hunting, fishing, reading westerns, sports and working his farm.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Evers; and a sister, Anna Evers.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Evers of Forest Grove; four sons, Melvin and Edmund Evers of Hillsboro, Ronald Evers of Tigard and Wayne Evers of Rainier; nine brothers, Ignatius, Eugene and Frederick Evers of Forest Grove, Peter, Alvin and Joseph Evers of Banks, Harry Evers of North Plains, Vern Evers of Beaverton and Neon Evers of Portland; three sisters, Florence Herinckx of Cornelius, Agnes Oblander of Beaverton and Norma Sue Peters of Richland, Wash.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Remembrances may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1660 Elm St., Forest Grove 97116, or to Washngton County Hospice, 427 S.E. 8th Ave., Hillsboro 97123, or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove.
