- Dale L. Vandehey, 78, a resident of the McMinnville community, died Friday evening, July 27, 2007 at the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville.
Private Family Services will be held at a later date.
DALE LEO VANDEHEY was born on July 11, 1929 in Roy, Oregon, the son of Leo John Vandehey and Ida Mae (Westcott) Vandehey. He was raised in the Roy community. Dale attended Centerville Grade School in Verboort.
He served in the United States Army, having joined on July 6, 1955. Dale served for two years until receiving his Honorable Discharge on July 5, 1957 at the rank of Private First Class. He then transferred to the Army Reserve, where he served until July 25, 1960.
Dale began his working career as a young man in a local lumber mill. During the 1970s, Dale worked in maintenance for the Porsche-Audi and Volkswagon dealership in Hillsboro. Prior to his retirement, he worked in maintenance for the Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City for several years.
Among his interests, Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed radio controlled cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Armstrong in 2004; and his son, Dale L. Vandehey, Jr. in 2004.
Dale is survived by his daughter, Melissa Vandehey of Dundee, Oregon; two brothers, Larry Vandehey of Forest Grove, Oregon and Darrell Vandehey of Beaverton, Oregon; two sisters, Maxine Ledford of Goldendale, Washington and Carolyn Beitelspach of Forest Grove, Oregon; and a granddaughter, Cussandra June of Lincoln City, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
