- Wisconsin Rapids - Mary A. Rosin, 65, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, November 15th, 2018 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards, WI.
Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM. There will also be visitation at the Allouez Catholic Cemetery Chapel, Allouez, WI on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the chapel.
Mary was born May 3, 1953 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, daughter of Elton W. and Lenora A. (Kaiver) Rosin.
Mary graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1971. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in mathematics from UW-Green Bay in 1975 and her master's in education from UW-Stevens Point in 1980.
Mary taught mathematics at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids for 35 years. She served as department chair from 1988-2010 when she retired. She also served as the district mathematics coordinator for twelve years. During her teaching career, Mary received several honors from the state. She was a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching state winner in 1992 and 1993. She received a Kohl Fellowship Award for excellence in 1992. Mary received the Outstanding Mathematics Educator Award from the UWSP Mathematics Department and the Mathematics Association of America in 1998. She was a Lincoln High School teacher of the year. Mary also served on the Wisconsin Mathematics Council Board of directors over a ten year period. She was the chair of the Green Lake Mathematics Conference in 2004 and served as the vice-president and president of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council during the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school years.
Mary was a life-long member of the Wisconsin Education Association, the National Education Association, the Wisconsin Mathematics Council and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Mary enjoyed her classes at the YMCA, maintaining and expanding her flower garden, going out to eat with friends and participating in the once monthly lunch with other retired friends. She loved to read, scrapbook, and put together her genealogy information and pictures, and travel with her sister. Mary wanted to acknowledge the following groups of people for all their help and support: her immediate family for using their individual skills in helping her with her dogs, her house, her car and her well-being; the doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, technicians and receptionists at the Aspirus Riverview Hospital UW Cancer Center; her neighbors, friends, and colleagues who stepped up and were there every time she needed them and asked for help. She also wants to acknowledge the OT's, PT's, nurses, and CNA's at Edgewater Haven during her recovery after surgery. Mary was impressed with strangers who, when asked to help with the cleaning and grooming, were there for her. To the good people there for Mary, thank you for all your help.
While Mary never had any children of her own, she was a dog-mom to Blue Jeans, Zoe, Rheanna, and Hannah. Mary was extremely proud of her four nieces; Jennifer (Rosin) Pertzborn, Stephanie (Rosin) Larson, Michaela and Morgan Rabideau. They were the loves of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Elton and Lenora Rosin. She is survived by her brother Richard (Connie) Rosin, her sisters Susan Rosin and Julie (Michael) Rabideau, her nieces Jennifer (Troy) Pertzborn, Stephanie (Eric) Larson, Michaela and Morgan Rabideau, along with many close friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established or donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Wisconsin Mathematics Education fund (www.wmefonline.org) or the UW-Cancer Center at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
