- Bellevue, WA - Carol Jean (Kroner) Cook passed away peacefully on October 2, 2018, at her residence of Newport Hills Villa, Bellevue, Washington. She was seventy-nine years old. Carol lived a full and adventurous life as a devoted wife and business partner with her lifelong husband; a consummate mother to her two children; a loving grandma to her six grandchildren; and a caring friend to all that knew her. Carol was born May 3, 1939, in Seymour, Wisconsin, to Lawrence and Dorothy Kroner. In 1957, she graduated from Seymour Community High School.
Carol met her husband, Herman Cook, when they became pen pals while he was serving overseas in the U.S. military. The two were married on January 15, 1962. They lived in Wisconsin for the first few years of their marriage but eventually made their way to Washington state and Skagit Valley. Carol worked at the Skagit Grange Supply as a bookkeeper until 1972 when the two moved to Lewis County.
When Herman started Cook Lumber in 1977, Carol worked with him side by side to get the business going. Their joint efforts and success led to many more business ventures over their life together. Carol's meticulous bookkeeping and organizational savvy helped the family businesses, as they expanded to Idaho and eventually Kona, Hawaii.
Carol loved living in Hawaii the most. She enjoyed long walks, lying on the beach, and entertaining her friends and family who traveled to the big island for a visit. She was a master at cooking, baking, and organizing outings. Anyone who had the opportunity to share time with Carol soon realized that there was nothing she wouldn't do to make her guests feel welcomed.
Carol was widowed in 2002 after she and Herman had relocated their summer home to Burlington, Washington. In 2008, she survived lung cancer. Despite complications and lingering physical challenges due to her cancer treatments, Carol continued to share and provide comfort to others in need.
Carol especially enjoyed traveling in her later years, taking trips to see family in Wisconsin and vacations with her children. Watching her grandchildren play sports was her favorite getaway. Carol loved the ballpark and could match calls with any baseball umpire.
Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Matt Webster of Issaquah, Washington; her son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Honey Cook of Burlington, Washington; her grandchildren Corey, Keegan, and Christopher; her step-grandchildren Kali, Amanda, and Connor; and her brother John Kroner, sisters Nancy Bliss and Vicki Fleitner, and various nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Dorothy Kroner, her husband Herman, and her sisters Gloria Ohm and Julie Amestoy.
Carol will be laid to rest next to her husband on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the Lyman Cemetery in Lyman, Washington. The intimate graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m. and is arranged by Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington, Washington. In lieu of flowers, remembrances are suggested to a cancer association of one's choice.
