    • Percy J. Spice Age 79, formerly of the Town of Navarino, Shawano County, passed away on Saturday evening, October 30, 1999, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, Wisconsin. He was born April 28, 1920, in Stiles Junction, Wisconsin, son of the late Ira and Sarah (Dessel) Spice. On May 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to the former Erna J. VanDenElsen at Wrightstown. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in European theater of operations and was a member of the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Mr. Spice had formerly worked in construction and as a log truck driver. He was an avid musician who played guitar with the Happy Wanderers Band, playing Country-Western and Old Time music in the Shawano area and in Texas during the winter months. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Erna Spice, King children, Thomas (special friend Joan) Spice, New London Richard (special friend Judy) Spice, Green Bay Jacki (Raymond) Echtner, Navarino Wendy Paiser, Shawano James (Nancy) Spice, Atlanta, Georgia Tracy (special friend Diana) Spice, Shawano Dean (Romi) Spice, Atlanta, Georgia Pamela (Dean) Rein, Scottsdale, Nebraska Shelly (Steve) Winter, Denmark Lisa (Jim) Brauer, Shawano 31 grandchildren ten great grandchildren mother-in-law, Sylvia VanDenElsen, Little Chute sisters, Gladys (George) Simpson, Little Chute Lillian (William) Lindemeyer, Washington Germaine (Francis) Smet, Sherwood a brother, Kenneth (Miako) Spice, San Jose, California. He was preceded in death by two children, Diane and Shane Spice a sister, Irene and brothers, Kirby, Lester and Calvin. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Schroeder- Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano with Father Robert Kollath officiating. Interment at Sacred Heath Catholic Cemetery of Shawano. Graveside miltary rites will be performed by the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home until the time of services. A parish wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Memorials for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano, Shawano American Legion Post 117 and the Wisconsin Veterans Home of King, Wisconsin, have been established in his memory.
