- Leona "Onie" M. Denissen, 89, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Feb. 14, 2004, at a local hospital. She was born April 29, 1914, in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Emil and Clara (Delongville) Swille.
Onie was a lifelong Green Bay resident. Onie's life was devoted to her late husband, Harry. They built 13 homes side by side and she could mix mud, pull wire and paint like no other woman. In addition to building homes, Onie held various jobs.
In her earlier years, she worked at the Golden Inn and Hochgreves. She later worked at Al Lison Drug Store, The Red Owl and at Snyder's Drug Store where she received many certificates for her outstanding courtesy.
She was very feisty, spunky and always the life of the party. Onie had many close friends that she cared about deeply. Onie deeply loved and gave generously to all her nieces and nephews. To one niece in particular, Onie was an angel in disguise. She looked after her and cared for her like no mother would. Onie's house was blessed with love, laughter, family, friends and a yard full of cats.
Survivors include nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Alfred Denissen, Allouez; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. George (Gertrude) Denissen, Allouez, Mrs. Bernice Tomcheck, Mrs. Edward (Verna) Denissen, Oneida.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Harold P. Denissen; one brother, Willard Swille; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Edna Swille.
At Onie's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial at Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
