Patrick W. Rogers
September 6, 1960 ~ April 2, 2023 (age 62)
Patrick W. Rogers September 6, 1960 ~ April 2, 2023 (age 62)
Patrick Rogers, age 62, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 2, 2023 in his home with his wife at his side.

Born September 6, 1960 to Kay (Ludke) and William Rogers, in Kaukauna, WI, Pat was the 3rd of 10 siblings: Michael (Kaukauna), Steven (Menasha), Laurie (Kaukauna), Amy (Doug) Frederickson (Kaukauna), Kevin (Black Creek), Scott (Menasha), Corey, Heather (Kaukauna), and Holly (Kaukauna). He attended St. Mary’s School and Kaukauna Public High School (class of ’79).

His passion for politics was sparked while campaigning with his siblings for their father, Bill, who was a State Representative. Much of his childhood was spent at the State Capital watching Bill and his colleagues caucus, write legislation, debate, and vote on Wisconsin’s issues of the day.

In 1982, Pat and Kathy Liesch (Hauschel) had their first son, Travis (Amanda Aeby) (Appleton). That same year Pat started a small independent company, PTK Recycling, that he owned and operated for 41 years, until he became ill in January of 2023. Pat and Kathy married in 1983 and their younger son Dylan (Neenah) was later born in 1987.

In 1994 Pat met his life partner and future wife, Ramona “Mona” Pepin while she was an undergrad student at Northern Michigan University. The couple built a life together for 22 years before marrying in 2016. They had an inseparable partnership for nearly 29 years. Mona had the honor of being Pat’s caretaker, and the privilege of being with him 24/7 for the duration of his illness.

Pat loved developing and maintaining their property and pond, weekend road trips, hunting with his best friend John Hungerford, working in “The Shop” with his brother Kevin, traveling to the Upper Peninsula to spend time with his extended “UP family”, attending Nascar races, and sharing time with his family. His favorite pass time was spending days and nights at home by the pond with his wife and their dogs Boo and Dega.

Pat was known for being the friend, brother, father, and husband that his close circle of “people” could count on. In addition to his family, he was grateful for the close relationships he had formed with his best friend of almost 50 years (John), his neighbors of over 30 years (Rich & Cindy), his Yooper family (the Smiths & Pepins), the Ross family (Scott, Chelsie, Zoey, Stella, Callie, and Ridge), the Fetzners, and his buddy Dave Sachs.

During Pat’s battle with pancreatic cancer, he was able to reflect on his life. He expressed how proud he was of his sons and his 3 granddaughters; Tasha (19) (Seymour), Lilith (7) and Lorilei (4) (Neenah). He spent his life with the woman he loved, and felt blessed to live out the remainder of his time in the comfort of his home with Mona and his brother Kevin. He had accomplished his goal of building a place he could call home, and he was comforted knowing that what he and Mona had built would remain with the person who loved it as much as he did. He noted that he had led a great life, trying to “do the right thing”, even when it was difficult. He had no regrets, and hoped that others would simply remember him as a “Good Man”.

Pat was proud to be recognized as a member of the Mohican Nation, Stockbridge-Munsee Band, “4th decendent”.

In addition to those noted, Pat is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Kay, father Bill, Grandmothers Ciel and Alice, brother Corey, mother-in-law (Patricia Pepin-Savola), nephew Nicholas, and his canine companion, Boo.

A public visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home Freedom Location, N3972 Columbia Ave. Following the visitation, a private family service will take place. And, thank you HSSD, the Bay Port High School “family”, Kathy S., Mike F., Steve G., and Bev S. for allowing Mona to remain at home.

Phyllis Mae Laughlin
May 21, 1931 - May 21, 2023
Phyllis Mae Laughlin May 21, 1931 - May 21, 2023
Phyllis Mae (Ritchie) Laughlin, New London, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, on her 92nd birthday, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 21, 1931, in New London, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Doinysia (Doc) and Florence (Joubert) Ritchie. The oldest of nine siblings, she learned the importance of family at a very young age. For many years she helped her parents care for her siblings, and this is how she built the foundation for her lifelong work of gaining love and respect as the matriarch of the family. Phyllis married the love of her life, Gene Laughlin, from the other side of the tracks, on July 26, 1950, at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. As their family started to grow, so did their family’s business ventures. In 1963, Gene and Phyllis and their in-laws started the long-standing community business, Highway Truck Parts. In 1977 they bought out Ruth and Dale Reese and made it a family run operation eventually bringing in their two sons and nephew. For 60 years Phyllis worked in the family business.

Another important part of her life was being a longstanding member of the greater New London Community. Knowing many local families, she had an incredible ability to recall faces and names and she used this gift to keep many generations connected. Phyllis showed her respect of community by volunteering and being very active in local organizations. She was a lifelong member of the Most Precious Blood Church, PCCW through MPB, the Oak Grove Homemakers, the Study Club, Red Hats Chapter of New London, the New London Lionettes, the MPB Thrift Sale volunteer group and she was a member of the New London Community Pool participating in Aquacise and water walking 2-3 days per week for 42 years. Through her lifetime, she also knitted, crocheted, and donated thousands of baby blankets and newborn infant hats to local hospitals.

In more recent years, she transitioned to prayer shawls and slippers for many family members and friends. After several ventures to one of their favorite locations in northern Wisconsin, Gene and Phyllis purchased a cottage on Lac Vieux Desert. She spent her spare time preparing the perch Gene caught for family fish fry’s, knitting and crocheting, putting her hands in the dirt while gardening and growing flowers, reading, playing crossword puzzles, watching PBS, enjoying big band music, and passing along the same zest for all of the things she loved to other members of the family. After the sale of the cottage, they enjoyed spending time traveling to see different cities and visiting casinos in one of their RV’s or in their Prius. They shared their love of travel with many members of the family, adventuring across the country and would always stop to visit the grandchildren or great grandchildren during their explorations. In 2020, Gene and Phyllis celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their immediate family.

Phyllis had a profound and immeasurable impact on so many people in the community. Even as her days grew shorter, she continued to share her faith. In her last month of life she continued her influence by developing a very special bond with her caretakers and helped guide one to the path of being baptized. She is survived and will be greatly missed by; her daughter Lynne Laughlin-Riley, New London, her children, Holly (Fiancée Mitch DeBehnke) McCarty (Greenville) her children Gabriel and Aubrey; Todd (Nancy) Riley, La Crosse, their children Aiden and Brenya; son Blair & his special friend Sheila, New London, his daughters, Angela (Tony) Monty, New London, her children Alexia and Payton; Gina Laughlin, Bonduel, her children: Kendra, Korbin and Hunter; Dr. Blaire Marie (Bancs) Bowers, Evans, Georgia, their daughter Boston; son Don (Connie) Laughlin, New London, their children: Melissa (Brian) Holtz, Oshkosh, Heather (Scott) Thibodeau their son Austin, Appleton, WI; Tyler Laughlin, New London; Ashley (Jesse) Beschta, their daughters, Nova and Charlee, Omaha, NE, her daughter Julie (Jeff) Roberts, New London, and their daughter Christy Roberts (fiancé Taylor Harris), Salt Lake City, Utah. Richard Patrick 'Dick Hearden 12 Mar 1929-22 Feb 2023
Richard Patrick 'Dick Hearden 12 Mar 1929-22 Feb 2023
Obituary
Richard Patrick “Dick” Hearden joined his beautiful bride Patricia Margaret in the arms of Our Lord on February 22, 2023, in Allouez, WI. A teacher and coach to so many, Dick’s life was defined by his faith, his family, and his dedication to love. But now faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13) was the map for Dick’s beautiful journey and those who were blessed to know him were inspired to choose love.

Dick was born in Green Bay, WI, on March 12, 1929, to Lester and Marie (Christman) Hearden. He was a precocious boy who loved his family and football, growing up in the era when the Green Bay Packers, whom his father Lester played for, were becoming a pillar in our community. He attended Whitney School in the primary grades, St. Patrick’s School (where he met some lifelong friends), and then Central Catholic. He was quite the poet and boxer in those early days, but football was his passion and led him to St. Norbert College, where he played for his Uncle Thomas “Red” Hearden for two years.

He took a break from college and football to serve in the Air Force. He then transferred to the Army and was accepted into Officer Candidates School. OCS was a defining experience for Richard, helping him realize his gifts as a leader, coach, and teacher. He used those strengths during his service in Korea, leading his infantry platoon on the front lines, playing a mean game of ping pong when away from the front lines, and earning the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Man’s Badge. Dick separated from the Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He then enrolled in Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire to realize his calling as a teacher and coach. The somewhat circuitous experiences of his early adulthood, the game of football, his loving family, and his faith laid a strong foundation for the man we loved.

Dick began his career as a high school social studies teacher and basketball, football, track, and golf coach - honing his skills and sharing his gifts in several small towns in Wisconsin and Ohio. His teaching and coaching journey led him to the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Bouche, in Marinette, WI. Richard and Patricia dedicated their lives to each other on June 11, 1960. Together they built a beautiful home and family based on the foundation of faith, love, and charity. With Pat by his side for 59 years, Dick modeled for his six children, sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and countless other “adopted’ children how to dedicate our hearts to God through prayer, how to use our gifts to serve others, and how to choose love above all.

Dick and Pat made Green Bay their forever home in 1967 when Dick took a “temporary” position as a social studies teacher at the Green Bay Correctional Institute, known as The Reformatory at the time. Dick affectionately called it “The Joint,” and found that he could live his purpose as a teacher and offer hope to the inmates who were lucky enough to be his students, and so he finished his career helping his students earn their high school diplomas. One of his greatest moments was when he received a letter from a former student who had been released from prison after taking all of Dick’s classes and earning his high school diploma. He thanked Dick for helping him gain the hope and skills to build a new life. Dick did not earn many accolades as a high school teacher in a prison but his dedication to his students in “The Joint” exemplifies Dick’s dedication to love and serve.

Being full of the Blarney, Dick had the gift of gab and would hold court with any willing party. He and Pat enjoyed traveling. In addition to driving thousands of miles to be with friends and family, they loved their trips abroad to Ireland, England, Scotland, and Italy. Of course, Ireland was our leprechaun’s favorite destination, and so he returned to the Emerald Island several times. He was an avid sports fan, with the Packers and his children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams being his favorite teams to cheer on, and of course, analyze. The game of golf kept him young and agile; he made his final hole-in-one at 89. Dick also aspired to be our very own Bing Crosby. He particularly loved serenading his Patricia Margaret. Most importantly, there was never a doubt about Dick’s priorities. He put God and his family at the center of his life. He and Pat were dedicated members of Nativity of our Lord and St. Matthew’s Parish, and nothing made Dick more proud than his family. He beamed as he shared in his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great children’s lives. Dick spent his final years, weeks, and days, knowing that his greatest legacy is the love he instilled in his family.

Richard is survived by his six children: Laura (Harold, Jr.) Samorian, Richard, Jr. (Sandipa), Mary (Tim) Gantz, Cara (Rob) Fowler, Kerri (David) Graham, Sean (AiMee), and his “Number Five” Andrea Hearden; sixteen grandchildren: James (Jennifer) Samorian, Dave Samorian, and Therese (Matt) Babiash; Elise (Kevin) Melendez, Ricky Hearden, and Tommy (Megan) Hearden; Spencer (Katie) Gantz, Gretchen (Tyler) Gantz, and Heidi (Mike) Mouser; Trey (Amanda) Fowler, Kylie (Thad) Ott, and Tate Fowler; Davis and Ellis Graham; Connor and Owen Hearden; and eleven great grandchildren: Wesley, Ava, and Lincoln Samorian; Marius Babiash; Amara Melendez; Ethan, Isaac, Asher, and Zoe Gantz; Rowe and Reid Fowler. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews and countless “adopted” children.

Richard is greeted in Heaven by his beautiful bride Patricia Margaret; his parents, Lester and Marie Hearden; his seven siblings: Carol Amenson, Jeanette Hearden, Baby Lester, Jack Hearden, Baby Marilyn Hearden, Sally Katzbahn, and Larry Hearden.

Visitation continues Tuesday, February 28, 2023, 9:00 am - 10:15 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Matthew Parish (130 St. Matthew St. Green Bay).
